Stoke will be happy with the start they have made to the EPL this year.  They may not have won a game yet but 3 draws out of 3 from a tough start is impressive.  They have had two away games so far, drawing 1-1 at newly promoted Reading and 2-2 at Wigan.  Both teams are expected to be in a relegation fight this year but a point away from home is good for a midtable team like Stoke.  Their lone home game so far was a tough match against Arsenal which finished 0-0, again a good result for the majority of the league.

Manchester City has won two of their 3 games so far but will be far from happy with their form.  They beat Southampton 3-2 on the opening day, coming from behind in the second half to get the win.  A 2-2 draw with Liverpool followed, a game where City were second best for the majority and then finally a 3-1 home win over QPR.  City will not be impressed with losing 5 goals in 3 matches, a team which were known for their strong defence last year, luckily they have the quality going forward to make up for it.

City have been experimenting with a back 3 this year which has not gone well, conceding 5 goals in just 3 games.  Stoke like playing with two strikers however and this usually suits a back 3, as two defenders can mark man to man and the other cover.  It will be interesting to see if Stoke change their approach in anticipation or stick with their preferred tactic.
