Everton v Wigan predictions: Get the facts

Everton is 2-4-0 in the Premier League overall in their last six. The last six at home has yielded 3-3-0, with a goal average of 3. Four out of six went over 2.5. Everton did not manage any clean sheets in this interval, but scored in every game.  In four out of six they scored two or more.

Wigan is 1-1-4 in the EPL overall, and 1-0-5 away from home. Away from home the Wigan goal average was 2.33 in that interval. Wigan managed one clean sheet, and they scored in half the games.

Team News and Run of Play

Everton will miss Fellaini and Gibson through suspension. Neville, Mirallas and Hibbert should still be out injured. For Wigan Watson, Alcáraz, Crusat and Miyaichi are still out. Caldwell should be fit to figure again if Roberto Martínez wants him to. McCarthy returned to action lately as well, so the injury situation is improving at Wigan.

Everton won 3-1 last year in a game they deserved to win. The reverse fixture this season ended 2-2. Again Everton deserved to win considering the 90 minutes. Everton won away to West Ham on the 22nd. They got a bit lucky as West ham got a debatable sending off in the 67th minute. Wigan lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal after a spirited display. Arsenal needed a penalty to find the net.

I think both sides will have the ball around 50% of the time. Everton will bring slightly more energy, while Wigan will try to keep their passing game going while defending ferociously.

Everton are big favorites in the market for this one. However, with both Fellaini and Mirallas out their offense is weakened in my opinion. The playfulness of Mirallas and they physical aspect Fellaini brings to the table will be missed. Against a Wigan that defended so well against Arsenal, it really smells like a tight game. Gibson is going to be missed in the middle of the park as well. With players returning for Wigan, I am not interested in backing Everton at ½ (1.50). That said, I am not sure Wigan has the quality needed to take three points at Goodison. I rather focus on the draw odds of 4.50 with Pinnacle Sports. I think those odds are just too good to pass.

Everton v Wigan predictions: Asian Handicap

As I think this will be a tight game I see two options. Option 1 is to “go safe”: You can take Wigan + 1.5 currently at 1.61 with Pinnacle Sports. I can’t really see Everton, with important players missing thrashing this Wigan side. You can take Wigan +1.5 at 1.61 here

Option 2 is to bet Wigan +0.5. As this is likely to be an even game, and I think Wigan can get something out of this some of you may prefer this bet. Pinnacle Sports offer 2.79, and this could be a well picked Christmas gamble.

The recent matches for these sides, and their last couple of meetings indicate that the over should be about a ½ (1.50) Favorite, which in turn works out to a 66.67% chance. As Everton miss both Fellaini and Mirallas, and Wigan seems to be getting better defensively I think the Over 2.5 odds should be slightly higher than the quoted odds.
