Liverpool is coming off two draws against Arsenal and Manchester City. The Reds fans will argue they deserved six points in those. West Bromwich (WBA) has gone eight games now without a win in all competitions. Can the Reds continue their improvement against a more physical and tough WBA? Continue reading the preview to find out.
Stats and Facts
Liverpool is 6-2-2 at Anfield in the Premier League this season. West Bromwich is 3-2-7 away. Liverpool has scored 12 goals in their last three Premiership games at Anfield and let in none. Actually Liverpool has managed an impressive 7 clean sheets in the last 9 home games. WBA is 1-0-5 in their last six away games. They've let in 13 goals in that interval and scored 6. WBA did not manage a single clean sheet.
The reverse fixture this season ended 3-0 fairly deservedly for WBA. Last season the West Brom left Anfield with 3 points. This game however Liverpool controlled and should have gotten something out of. This season the teams also met at Hawtorns in the League Cup. Liverpool fielded a young side, but got a deserved 2-1 win.
Team News
Liverpool should have no new injuries to cope with. Young bits and parts players Kelly and Flanagan (both defenders) are ruled out until mid-March. Sturridge got a minor knock against City but is likely to play. For WBA Popov (defender) is suspended. Gera, thei goal hungry attacking midfielder is out injured still.
Betting Prediction for 1X2
I expect Liverpool to have around 60% of the possession. Liverpool will play their game as usual. With Suarez now having a quality partner up front in Sturridge Liverpool's conversion rate is improving. Gerrard has been in brilliant form lately, chipping in with goals and assists. Downing and Henderson seems to be finding their form in midfield as well after having been put in front of the exit door at some point over the last six months.
WBA will need real determination if they are to get something out of this game. They’ll need Mulumbu's physical presence in midfield. Lukaku has been a threat in the EPL this season as well. His physical strength will be needed to put pressure on the Liverpool defenders. He can play well as a lone striker or with either Long, Rosenberg and Odemwingie. Shane Long is likely to be asked to get under the skin of the Liverpool defenders as much as he can. The Irish striker has great movement, and created problems for Liverpool in the EPL opener this season.
West Brom looked a threat early on in the season, and their Premier League opener against Liverpool was a shocker. I do not see them being able to pull something like this off again. Liverpool has improved as the season has dragged on, and WBA is now on a really poor run of form. For me this is a loud home win shout!
You can get 2/5 (1.40) for the home win, and that is probably a good selection for your football accumulator this weekend. Below is a list of bookmakers that offers 1.40 (2/5) as well as the bonus they currently offer.
