SOUTHAMPTON V NEWCASTLE UNITED PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

Southampton are second bottom of the table on 8 points after 12 matches, 2 wins, 2 draws and 8 losses.  They have no trouble scoring goals with an average of 1.5 per game but are conceding a league leading 2.5 per match.  They are undefeated in 2 matches with a draw against Swansea and a win at QPR last week but they still need more points if they are to escape the relegation zone.

Newcastle currently sit in 12^th place with 14 points from 12 matches, having won 3, drawn 5 and lost 4.  They have struggled to score goals and average just 1.08 per game while conceding 1.42.  They have lost two matches in a row, both at home and have not won at all this month.

TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Southampton has put all their survival hope in their attack and hope that for enough games they can outscore the opposition.  This isn’t a usual strategy for promoted clubs as most try and keep organised defensively and try and snatch a goal and it will lead to some very heavy defeats for Southampton.  They have no major injury worries going into this and a stretch with almost a full squad has to be the time they pick up points, if they were to lose some of their top players then things will get a lot harder.

Newcastle have the longest injury list in the league with 8 players either out or struggling this week.  They will hope Gutierrez and Ameobi can make it in time for this match but will still be without Cabaya, Perch and Taylor among others.  And just as importantly Fabrivio Coloccini is still suspended after his stupid kick at Luis Suarez 3 games ago.  It’s vital Newcastle stem the dropping of points soon or they’ll find themselves well adrift of their goals but with their lengthy injury list recently you can see why they’ve dropped so many points.
