Stoke City v Liverpool: facts and selected stats

Stoke hasn’t lost an English Premier League tie in their last eight, and at home they are undefeated in fifteen (4-2-0 in their last six). The Britannia Stadium has in other words become quite a fortress. In their last six EPL home games the goal average was 1.5. Five out of six went under 2.5, and Stoke managed four clean sheets. Liverpool is a bit unstable, as expected with a young squad, but the overall trend is upwards. Away from home Liverpool is 2-3-1 in their last six. The goal average in those six was 2.83. Four out of six went over 2.5. Liverpool managed one clean sheet in the process.

Team news and Run of play

Charlie Adams should be back to play his former club after missing out on the 22nd. The clubs have no fresh injury worries. Since 2011 the teams have met six times including the cups. These matches have been very tight result wise. Liverpool has been dominant possession wise and has fired more shots by far. The teams have met twice at the Britannia in the said interval. Both teams have one win each. This game looks quite easy to call: Liverpool will play and keep possession. Stoke will battle and try to use their power to their advantage on set pieces and breaks.

Stoke v Liverpool predictions for 1x2

Stoke will bring power and energy to the party. Liverpool will bring playfulness and finesse.  Last time around at the Britannia in the EPL Liverpool had over 70% of the possession, but Stoke won it through a 20th minute penalty. Obviously Stoke went for defending after going in front. That is something they do remarkable well, and that clearly is shown in the stats section above. To me this looks like a game Liverpool will control possession wise. That does indicate they will get to quite a bit of chances, and it will be down to conversion for the visitors. At the same time, never rule out a battling Stoke at the attacking end either. Stoke has scored in thirteen out of their last fifteen home games in the Premier League. I think they will manage again.

Liverpool deserves to be favorites on merit and improved form as of late, but against the most physical side in the league I think Liverpool’s young team will have a tough time. I am not willing to back Liverpool at around 2.30 then. I prefer to put weight on Stoke’s scoring abilities and unbeaten streak. At the end of the day I call this a draw.

Betsson offers 3.25 for the said draw, and as they also have a massive €100 Risk free bet (giving you a refund up to €100 if the bet is a loser). That surely must be value! If you agree with my predictions:

Stoke v Liverpool predictions for Asian Handicap

I can’t see how one can land at any type of wide handicap here. Liverpool met a really weak Fulham side at Anfield on the 22nd, and grabbed four goals. Fulham gave Liverpool a lot of time on the ball and did not put any type of pressure on Liverpool’s midfield. This will be a different story. Stoke will fight like lions.

If you favor Liverpool due to their ability to get lots of chances, and recent improvements overall I suggest taking Austrian elite bookmaker Interwetten’s 1.70 Liverpool draw no bet. It’s the best odds in the market right now.

If you want to put more weight on Stoke’s home abilities I think Stoke +0.25 with Pinnacle Sports priced at 1.94 is your bet. This Asian Handicap basically means that if Liverpool wins, you lose. If the game ends a draw, half the stake is returned to you, while the other half is multiplied with 1.94. If Stoke wins, the entire stake is multiplied by 1.94. I take this bet myself.

Stoke +0.25 at 1.94 is found here

Stoke v Liverpool predictions for Total Goals

Historically; since 2011 these teams have played four out of six under in total. At the Britannia it’s one over and one under. Last time Stoke played Liverpool at the Britannia in the Premiership seven shots were fired on target, with only one shot resulting in a goal. Stoke will as usual go for defending, and Liverpool will pass the ball around. The scenario is pretty clear.

Out of eight away games so far this season Liverpool has failed to score on two occasions. The same is true for Stoke City’s home record. Stoke has also only let in three goals in those matches.

The Under 2.5 does look like a solid favorite. 188BET offers 1.70, which equals about a 58.9% chance. Given the preview so far and the predictions given I think there is value to be had in those odds. If you agree:

1.70 For the Under is taken here.
