Sunderland is involved in the relegation battle with 2-1-3 in their last six Premiership matches. At home Sunderland is 1-2-3 in their last six, with a goal average of 2.67 goals. Three went over 2.5. Sunderland bagged two clean sheets in this selected interval, and they scored in four out of six.

Manchester City is 3-2-1 in their last six English Premier League matches. Away Man City is 4-2-0, with a goal average of 1.83. Three games went over 2.5. City got two clean sheets in the process, and grabbed goals in four out of the six. Man City actually scored two or more in each of the four.

Team News and Run of Play

Sunderland has gotten important players back as of late and has no new worries. Manchester City is hanging in there with their rich squad, but one does sense there is trouble in the camp. Nasri is now ruled out. Kolarov and Balotelli is still ruled out. So is Richards and Rodwell. The highly influential defender Vincent Kompany might be back for this one.

The last two fixtures between these sides at the Stadium of Light have ended 1-0 for Sunderland. Both matches saw late goals, and Manchester City was the best side in both matches. I believe Manchester City will have about 60-65% of the possession, and therefore they deserve to be favorites. However, with key players back on the pitch Sunderland will give the defending Premier League champions a hard fight.

The market has Man City an 8/15 (1.53) Favorite at the time of writing. Understandable given the strength of the team, but City hasn’t looked fantastic in quite some time. It’s clear to most Manchester City has problems in the dressing room. They also seem less solid at the back compared to their Premier League winning last season. In their last game against Reading, City looked lackluster and poor. Only a late goal by Gareth Barry saved them for blushes. Sunderland has players back, and will be trying to build on two wins in their last three. Given the extremely low City odds I go for the draw. At 4.00 I think there is good value to be had. Looking at the stats this looks quite like a 50-50 game in relation to the 2.5 total goals line. The historic results point to a hard fought game with little goals. I can’t really say this match looks set to be much different. I think the under 2.5 deserves to be Favorite. 2.07 is available from 188bet currently. I find this obvious value.
