Tottenham v Chelsea predictions and preview: Betting stats
Tottenham currently sit 5th in the Premier League after 7 games having amassed 14 points with a record of W4 D2 L1. Their form is the best in the league (DWWWW). Their home matches this season have seen two draws followed by two wins. So far they have scored 13 goals and conceded 8 seeing an average of 3 goals per game, 4 games over 2.5 goals and 3 under.
Chelsea are top of the league so far. They have 19 points from their seven games (W6 D1 L0) and are one of only two sides who remain unbeaten this season. They are the next best team behind Spurs on form (WDWWW) and their away record sees a draw sandwiched by two wins. Their 15 goals is the joint second highest in the league and the 4 conceded is the lowest. Their games have averaged 2.71 goals with 4 over 2.5 goals and 3 under.
In terms of past meetings at White Hart Lane, it couldn’t be closer; each side has 24 wins with 17 draws. You have to go back to August 2005 since Chelsea’s last win at the Lane but they have beaten them in the FA Cup and a few of these results have been close-fought draws.
Team News and Run of Play
Spurs have no new injury concerns; Kaboul and Parker remain long-term absentees while Bale got through Wales’ win against Scotland on Friday and looks fully fit once again. Chelsea will be hoping that Ryan Bertrand will be over his illness that ruled him out of the internationals and that Frank Lampard won’t be a long-term injury worry. I suspect Lampard may miss this game if he is not fully fit. Chelsea’s medical team will however be happy he wasn’t forced to travel to Warsaw with the England squad. Chelsea will however definitely be without their skipper as John Terry's acceptance of the FA's ruling means he serves the first of his four game suspension.
Spurs have had an interesting start to their season. They started poorly it has to be said but have since been steadily improving and their win at Old Trafford has once again ignited murmurs around the stadium that they could push further up the table and threaten Europe once again. Jermain Defoe could have been labelled ‘want-away’ over the summer but seems happy in his lone striker role and has confined Adebayor to the bench. This is Spurs’ first real test at home having previously played sides who, apart from West Brom, are languishing in the table. They have no reason to change their style of play and Andre Villas-Boas should know how to play against Chelsea.
Chelsea have impressed so far this season. Solid performances and goals coming from throughout their side will have been encouraging to Roberto Di Matteo. Off-field problems have threatened to hamper their progress and seemingly this week it is once again Ashley Cole who’s making the headlines, reportedly unwilling to sign a new contract. Their front line looks formidable on the pitch and that is what counts. The way Torres is adapting to his service from Mata, Hazard and Lampard is impressive. In the long term they may miss the brute force in central midfield of Essien but for now they look genuine title contenders.
I suspect this game could be very evenly matched but I hope for the spectators’ sake that these two attacking sides don’t cancel each other out. We may see some defensive liabilities however as both sides have attack-minded full backs but they will need to perform defensive duties to deal with the opposing wingers.
Tottenham v Chelsea predictions: 1X2 betting preview
For this game I cannot look past the draw. These two sides are in great form and I think Chelsea look a bit lightweight in central midfield and this match could really come down to which side has the strength to come out on top. It will be an exciting match but recent form and head-to-head from the past few years all point to a draw being the bet here.
Tottenham v Chelsea predictions: Asian Handicap preview
I think in terms of the Asian Handicap, which with the match betting being so close is obviously a draw no bet handicap, I’d slightly favour Chelsea having already recorded a good away win in north London this season.
If you agree then Chelsea (0) at 2.14 with Pinnacle looks a good price.
Tottenham v Chelsea predictions: Total Goals preview
I think that both sides being high scorers this season suggests over 2.5 goals should be the bet. However my thoughts tend towards the draw and I can’t imagine Chelsea conceding two goals to force the 2-2 draw so the tempting price of the under 2.5 is my bet.
Under 2.5 goals at 2.05 can be taken here with BetVictor.
