West Ham open up with a London derby against Tottenham. West Ham have made a few moves in transfer market with defenders Aaron Cresswell and Carl Jenkinson. Defensive mid Chekhiou Kouyate and Diego Poyet. With two decent forwards coming in Enner Valenica and Mauro Zarate. They have a chance of doing well this season for sure. West Ham had a period last season where they struggled badly and lost a lot of games. At that time however they were missing almost an entire 1st team as they were beset by injuries. West Ham have the core of a very strong side and can do well. Tottenham decided to clean the slate again and let Tim Sherwood go, bring in the impressive Mauricio Pochettino. They have not really overhauled their side either as they did a lot of spending the season before. Pochettino has inherited a huge squad, but one packed with undoubted quality. New players this year include keeper Micheal Vorm, plus defenders Eric Dier, DeAndre Yedlin and Ben Davies. A solid keeper plus three defenders who could be very good indeed. Matt Jarvis, and Andy Carroll miss out for Hammers while Carl Jenkinson, Guy Demel, Ravel Morrison are rated 50/50. New signing Enner Valencia looks likely to miss out a start at least as he lacks match fitness. For Spurs just defenders Walker and Vertonghen are injury worries.
With 14 clean sheets last season West Ham again will base their play on a sound defensive unit. Tottenham will evolve under Pochettino and the high field press he used so well for Southampton will be in force here. Southampton had a fantastic defensive record for most of last season too and only struggled when the wafer thin squad lost players to injury. I expect a low scoring game here and under 2.5 is a great bet.
