Wigan sit 13^th in the Premier League having amassed 11 points from their opening 10 games (W3 D2 L5). Their form of late has been improving at LDLWW and until a couple of weeks ago they hadn’t won at home but had played some in form sides. Their games average 2.70 goals with 6 seeing over 2.5 goals; 4 have seen fewer.

West Brom are currently 5^th with 17 points (W5 D2 L3) but have recently had a bit of patchy form with just two wins from their last 5 games (DWLLW). Away from home they are yet to win and are thankful they have 5 wins from 6 at home so far. Their games average slightly fewer goals at 2.60 and only half of their games have seen over 2.5 goals.

In terms of head-to-head these teams have rarely met. Wigan are currently 3-1-1 at home in this tie with last season’s match ending 1-1. West Brom haven’t beaten Wigan since May 2009.

Wigan look set to be without Crusat, Alcaraz and McCarthy for this game while on-loan winger Ryo Myaichi may return. Morrison and Reid are missing for the visitors.

Wigan started the season poorly but have recently seen an upturn in fortunes. I think it’s safe to say their victory against Spurs last week will have seen a huge boost in confidence but they will have to build on that and not relax back into another slump in form. They aren’t scoring many goals but look to be grinding out results.

West Brom are a real force at the Hawthorns but away from home they have struggled. They have scored just 3 of their 15 goals away from home and this is the reason they are yet to win. Their home form is what has propelled them to the dizzy heights of 5^th in the league and they are currently just goal difference away from 4^th spot. I suspect they will want to take the game to Wigan early and try and get that elusive away win.

For me, this game will be a cagey and close fought match. Neither team will want to lose and I suspect both managers would be happy with a draw but for me the momentum lies with Wigan at the moment and they played some really nice football against both West Ham and Spurs in their back-to-back victories. I think a Wigan win at 2.30 with bet365 isn't a bet worth taking however (read below for details).

Wigan can’t keep clean sheets at the DW and have conceded a total of 9 goals in their 5 home games. West Brom’s away games have averaged 2.5 goals and they have struggled to score too many but if Wigan’s defence is a bit leaky I can envisage a 2-1 home win so over 2.5 goals is the bet.
