Marseille is achieving a surprising perfect start of the season in Ligue 1 and Europa league where the club remains undefeated. For his part, Rennes finally signed his first success last week against Bastia.

Last week, Olympique of Marseille secured a win against the defending champion at Montpellier 0-1. Elie Baup’s  men are still invincible in Ligue 1 and, thanks to their three wins in as many games, leading alone the ranking with 9 points. Special mention to Gignac, who scored the only goal of the game, he was very much criticized last season for his lack of effectiveness and questionable fitness but he seems to have regained confidence.

After two losses against Lyon and Bordeaux (0-1 each), Rennes finally woke up and started his season last week. They got the best of Bastia (3-2) with a convincing win. Sixth last year, Rennes, more united, powerful and effective is looking forward to face Marseille to test his level against one of the biggest team of the league.

Central defense of Marseille is perfectly in place with Nkoulou and Mbia but Stéphane Mbia could have played his last match in the colors Marseille (QPR is about to sign him, Joey Barton might be included in the deal). If it is the case, Marseille will have huge difficulties to replace him. Same situation in Rennes with midfielder Yann Mvila who’s still uncertain to stay as Tottenham is even more interested to buy him after Modric’s departure.

Asian Handicap

With all the squad changes coming or not in both clubs, I think it’s better to back up on a double chance market. I expect Marseille to struggle against the alertness and the speed of Rennes’s strikers (Pitroipa and Erding especially).

Last year, Rennes won in Marseille 0-1 and lost at home 1-2.

Historically, matches between these two teams rarely end by more than 3 goals.
