Lyon remains unbeaten in Ligue 1 but has struggled against Evian last week-end to obtain a draw (1-1) whereas Valenciennes has demonstrated its resources with a convincing win over Ajaccio (3-0).
Despite this draw, Remi Garde's men have not unworthy, led to the score, Lyon’s players were nevertheless able to return to the score thanks to a superb free kick from Michel Bastos (who finally might stay in Lyon). They showed good team spirit and cohesion this season. The question of the week will concern goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’s departure or not to Tottenham, if it happens it will be a huge loss for Lyon.
Valenciennes is creating the surprise this season so far. They are still unbeaten after 3 games and they look very strong at home like last season.
However, there is much more quality in Lyon’s side, it should be enough to beat a well-organised but quite technically poor team of Valenciennes. Only Yohan Gourcuff is out for this game due to his knee injury, last year, Lyon won easily at Gerland 4-1 and they were held to a draw in Valenciennes.
