FREIBURG V HAMBURGER SV PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

Freiburg are having an inconsistent start to the Bundesliga season and are in 12^th place in the table, with 12 points from 10 matches.  They have won 3, drawn 3 and lost 4 which is too close to relegation form, if they want to keep well away from the battle at the bottom they’ll need to start winning more games than they are losing.  Their last 5 matches have seen 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw.  There has been an average of 2.4 goals per match over those 5 and 2 of the games finished with over 2.5 goals.

Hamburger has also been hugely inconsistent this year with 4 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses from their 10 matches so far.  This leaves them in 9^th place with 13 points, 5 points off a top 4 place.  Their last 5 games have seen 3 losses and 2 wins, with just 2.0 goals per game on average and 2 of the 5 finishing with over 2.5 goals.

Freiburg finished in a group of midtable teams last year, easily clear of relegation but just as far away from a European place.  They have largely kept their squad together from last year and have looked to add some players who will improve the overall quality without spending a lot of money.   They will likely finish in a similar mid-table position this year with too much quality and experience to go down but not enough to fight for a European place.

Hamburger narrowly avoided relegation last year, finishing just one spot outside the drop.  In order to stop a repeat of that this year they splashed the cash in the summer spending €27.4m on new players.  Unfortunately for them this doesn’t seem to have worked and their inconsistent form has left them struggling in midtable.  They seem to still be a level behind the top half dozen teams and will struggle to break into a European place this season.

Despite the difference in resources and spending power, Freiburg are the favourites for this match which I think is fair looking at their form. 

Interwetten are offering a very nice 2.2 on a Freiburg win which is way ahead of most books, so I’d back it quickly before it drops.

If you think Hamburger has turned a corner recently with their 2 straight away wins then you could use the AH market to find a bet that favours them.
