Hamburg get a chance to preserve their Bundesliga status in this two legged play-off against the third placed side in Germany2 Greuther Furth. Hamburg have never been out of the top league since its inception, but with five defeats in a row have come perilously close to dropping out automatically, and must improve over these two games. Winners of just seven of their thirty four league matches it has been a disastrous season for this former giant, and with twenty one defeats they are lucky to get this chance of a reprieve. Greuther Furth aim to bounce straight back to Bundesliga after relegation last season, and with just one defeat in fourteen they finished the season well, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion in third place. Highest scorers in the second tier they will hope to continue that against a leaky Hamburg defence, and an away record (7-6-4) is encouraging. The return of top scorer Lassoga from injury is a boost for Hamburg, and with the impressive Calhanoglu and Van Der Vaart in midfield they should be confident of getting a crucial home win to take into the return leg.
