Arsenal are still without Goalie Łukasz Fabiański. Midfielders Tomas Rosický and Diaby are also still sidelined. Young Kieran Gibbs will not take place in defence, as he too is injured still. Attacker Gervinho is still not back either. 

Montpellier has winger Souleymane Camara suspended. He is their top scorer this season in Ligue 1 so he will be missed. Another offensive player; Karim Aït-Fana is still out with injury. Striker John Utaka, defenders Hilton, Benjamin Stambouli and Cyril Jeunechamp could be in contention after injury/illness but we will need to await further team news. 

This was a fairly even game in Montpellier. At Emirates, a hyper motivated Arsenal side should dictate the pace, and I would be surprised if the possession stat doesn’t indicate this after the game.

Arsenal v Montpellier predictions: 1x2 preview

Both sides are good up front, but weak at the back. Clean sheets are few and far between. Having Camara sidelined is a blow to Montpellier coach Girard. Super influential playmaker Belhanda (returning to the team after being suspended in the last league game) will bear much more of the burden now. Arsenal has been getting players back lately, and things are looking on the up after a spirited performance against Tottenham this weekend.

Looking at the stats I would be careful with a wide handicap. However, as there is an overall quality difference between Ligue 1 and the EPL I find it possible to look at a -1.0 Asian Handicap for Arsenal. The -1.5 is just too risky for me as Arsenal leak goals and Montpellier tend to score in every game they play. Pinnacle Sports offer 1.52 for Arsenal -1. Given the circumstances this is the bet for me.

Arsenal and Montpellier has played a total of 8 games in the Champions League this season. 7 of those have ended over 2.5 goals. None of these games ended with clean sheets for these sides. Not going for the Over 2.5 makes little sense to me. Actually half the games these sides have played in the CHL this season went over 3.5 goals.

Montpellier has scored in their last 9 matches. I can see reasons not to bet that trend here, like Camara’s suspension, and general lack of motivation, but seriously: Does Arsenal look like a solid defense? No way! Also, should Arsenal run over Montpellier, and go 3-4 goals up it is likely they’ll tinker with their eleven and lose focus slightly. How often aren’t goals scored in that scenario. Montpellier to score at 1.75 offered by Betsson must be really nice odds. I do not think these odds will be standing come kick off.
