MACCABI TEL AVIV - GYOR: PREDICTIONS

Two teams without much recent experience in European Champions League, it looks like the Isreali side are through already after a cracking performance in Hungary.

Maccabi Tel Aviv won the league last season to add to their record 21 Israeli titles, the side from Tel Aviv have had a barren decade or so though.  With just one other league title won since 1996 the side returned to Champions League after a long wait. The side has made the group stages in both European competitions, it has a record of 64 games, 23 wins, 15 draws and 26 losses. In Champions League they have 7 wins, 5 draws and 9 defeats. Munas Dubbur is out but only a squad member but there is a big doubt over key attacker Rada Prica. Maccabi totally dominated the game in Hungary, with majority possession, corners and shots on and off target.

Gyor had one of their most successful seasons ever last year, winning their 4^th title and making the Hungary Cup final. The side from Northwest Hungary were by far the best side in the country and deserved the title. However with the step up to continental competition Gyor really struggled at home to the Isreali side. The match looked to be an even one but as soon as the whistle went it was all Tel Aviv. Gyor were out of their depth for sure. Mate Patkai is a doubt for the match,  the attacker is easily replaced however.

A huge gulf in class was evident here as Maccabi dominated the Hungarians in all departments. Isreali sides are usually very strong at home too and I cannot see anything other than a home win here.
