Manchester City is good enough to run this game. Mancini normally knows how to structure his defense very well, and even if they have been a bit shaky this season (for his standards) Manchester City is one of the best defenses out there. Actually, in the last 6 EPL ties Man City has managed 4 clean sheets, so it looks like they are finding their feet. It is rare for the opposition to get more than 5 shots at goal launched. When you got Aguero, Tevez, Dzeko and Balotelli as your forwards with support of playmakers like Silva and Nasri, you got style! If you turn it on, the goals comes flying.
Any team under Mourinho can defend, and this Real Madrid edition is no different. They’ve only let in 9 goals in 12 La Liga matches. In 4 Champions League matches however Real Madrid has let in 7 so far, and that is frankly speaking; not good enough. It is their offensive, led by Cristiano Ronaldo (5 goals so far in the Champions League) that saves them. Benzema is back from injury, and he scored in the weekend. Higuain on the other hand is out injured. Marcelo, the dynamic full back is still out as well. Real Madrid is one of few teams that I expect to get 10-15 shots on goal fired. Joe Hart must be ready for City if they are going to have any chance to stay in it.
From a betting point of view I will wait with any big bets until it is clear how Mancini looks at this game. He can roll over and die, and just focus on domestic cups and the Premier League. He may also choose to go all-in and let his star filled team go for glory. For football, and my own TV entertainment time, I surely hope he goes for the latter. I believe (until I see proof of otherwise) that he will go for it.
The betting market has ruled out Manchester City, and I can’t see why as of now. Manchester City at home is certainly not an easy match. Since Real Madrid is such a great side, I do want a bit of a hedge against their quality. Both sides fight like lions to avoid defeat. Such qualities are rare, but the trademark of true Champions. Unless Mancini goes full tilt and plays his junior team I expect this to swing back a little.
