PSG v Porto predictions: Stats and Facts

This is the final of Group A. PSG has 12 points, and is one point behind Porto. The Group winner will have the luxury of not being drawn against any other group winner. There will be massive quality in both 1st and 2nd position though in every group, so how much this actually means for the teams is unclear. The reverse fixture ended with a 1-0 victory for Porto.

PSG is WLWLWW (4-0-2) at home in their last six, excluding the domestic cup. The goal average was 2.83. Four out of six ended over 2.5. Paris SG managed four clean sheets in the process and won three of the matches with a goal superiority of two plus.  PSG let in more than one goal twice in the interval mentioned. In the Champions League so far PSG is 2-0-0 at home after beating Dynamo Kiev 4-1 and Dinamo Zagreb 4-0.

Porto is WDWDWW (4-2-0) away from home, excluding the domestic cup. The goal average was 2.67. Three of the games ended over 2.5. Porto managed three clean sheets in this match interval and won with a margin of two or more goals two times. Porto let the opposition score more than once twice. In this seasons’ Champions League Porto is 1-1-0 away from home. They won 2-0 away in Zagreb versus Dinamo and played 0-0 in Kiev against Dynamo.

PSG v Porto predictions: Analysis

Both teams obviously boast a massive amount of talent. PSG has invested by far most. Here Paris has doubts over striker Gameiro, Midfielders Verrati and Motta as well as Goalie Sirgiu. Perhaps more players will be out. Ancelotti might decide to rest a few. I will come back with more information on that. Porto should field a strong side. Both Colombian goal sensations Rodriguez and Martinez should be fit. They will be needed against a tactically sound (as any Ancelotti side) PSG.

The reverse fixture was fairly one sided when it came down to chances. Porto managed 13 shots on target versus PSG’s 2. Possession wise the teams were fairly even. PSG missed a few players for this fixture, and I am pretty sure they will want to finish of their group stage campaign in style. That said, they’ve struggled slightly for form lately and been too inconsistent. 

PSG should control most of this game, but Porto can move fast and attack with skill. In Martinez and Rodriguez they have two of the brightest goal scorers around at the minute. Here these two players are up against one of the best defenses in club football at the moment, so it will be really interesting. A must see game for me.

PSG v Porto predictions: 1x2 preview

I expect a close game slightly dominated by PSG (unless the rest a lot of players). Their solid defensive platform in combination with the unpredictable Swedish Ibrahimovic up front playing off players like Lavezzi, Menez and Pastore is no easy thing to handle. I would be relatively surprised if PSG doesn’t score. The Porto defense usually never gets to meet this caliber of players in their domestic league. Given this setting I put my money on the home win. 2.18 with Betfair looks too high pre squad info. When you factor in the £20 free bet for new customers as well, this is a bet that has to be tested. Good odds and free money is a good way to have a great time.

PSG v Porto predictions: Asian Handicap

PSG is so solid at the back, so they win quite a decent chunk of their matches to nil. When they got so much firepower up front they usually end up banging more than one in the net as well. I will take a gamble on that even if they are up against a premium side here. In the reverse fixture PSG was weakened, and at home they’ve demolished any and all opposition with 3 and 4 goals respectively. The -1 Asian Handicap is priced at 3.09 with Pinnacle, and unless Ancelotti rests Ibrahimovic and at least one of Menez, Pastore or Lavezzi up front I think this is good value for money given the stats and the strength of the respective squads. Pinnacle may have no bonus to offer, but you can always count on them for really good odds overall.

PSG would need to win if they want the group title. If they draw Porto will win with more points between them in their two ties. This should lead to a slightly more open game, especially as times ticks. Ancelotti will surely take his time and get a feel for the game before he sends his troops headless chicken style ahead. Porto won’t need many chances to score given the quality of their attacking options, and they’ll try to get some counter attacks launched with precision. 

Most likely the under is a slight Favorite as Porto very well can lay back, and PSG will be vary of the quick breaks Porto are capable of. The market seems to agree more or less. 1.95 with Betsson looks a really good price.
