Preview
Mexico is a tough to beat team. Eight ouf their last ten matches have ended in a draw. They haven't lost in fourteeen! Still people say they are poor at the minute. The problem lies in offense. Three goals in their last five is quite representative for what troubles them. Their squad for the Confederations Cup is mainly put together with players from the Mexican league. Then it's spiced up a bit with the likes of Hernandez (Man U), Dos Santos (Mallorca), Guarado (Valencia) and Moreno (Espanyol).
Italy has also been on a path of draws lately. Four out of their six latest have ended draw. In that interval lowly ranked Malta and San Marino were the teams beaten. Their run up to this tournament was against Haiti, that game ended 2-2. Obviously Italy rotated the first eleven quite a bit and tested out several options, so don't put too much weight on that game alone. Italy has brought over their best possible squad for the tournament, and are big favorites for this game.
These sides met in a friendly back in 2010 Mexico beat the Italians 2-1.
Betting Tips
Italy must be expected to have most of the ball. In a midfield that will house players such as Pirlo, Marchisio and De Rossi there is a lot of opportunity. Up front Italy is a wee bit thin. Balotelli doesn't seem ready yet, and allthough El Shaarawy is a big talent I have my doubts about him for the moment. Italy had problems breaking down the Czechs in the recent World Cup Qualifier, and Mexico will not be easy either. Should either of the sides get a goal, the opposition has enough quality to score one too.
My pick is definitely the draw priced at 21/10 (3.10) with Betsson. I would say this X is clearly the favorite in terms of outcomes on the 1X2.
I also like the Correct Score odds for 0-0 priced at 7.00 (6/1). Given the defensive setup of Mexico, how can that not be value? Four out of Mexico's last six have gone 0-0! The Under 2.5 is priced at 1.55 (11/20) and is acceptable too.
