URUGUAY - ITALY: PREDICTIONS

The dreaded 3^rd place playoff match that no side wants but there always has to be one. Both sides were involved in close games they had a slight chance of winning in the semi finals. Uruguay held  their own for long periods against hosts Brazil but were ondone by a late goal. Italy battled for 120 minutes against a subdued Spain side but lost in the harshest of circumstances, losing in sudden death penalties.

Uruguay were not embarrassed at all in the 1^st semi final against hosts and continental rivals Brazil. I thought a major problem for Oscar Tabarez’s men was they gave Brazil too much respect. Suarez and Cavani were playing as auxilery full backs for most of the time with both players to be found aiding out in defensive positions for most of the second half. When Uruguay did attack they looked threatening and dangerous with the front three causing the Brazil backline a few problems.  Uruguay were too keen to get involved with Brazil at a street fighting level also and were guilty of a lot of bad tackles and rough housing. This game could see a few of the players who were involved in the Tahiti match return as this 3^rd place match is a game few will want to be involved in. Abel Hernandez and Gaston Ramirez are likely to feature. Hernandez has more to gain than others with his Top Scorer chances better than others thanks to his four goal haul against Tahiti.

Italy played a very organised and tactital match for the entire 120 minutes against World and European champions Spain. Cesar Prandelli got his formation and play spot on and Spain looked a pale imitation of the one we know. Italy did not surrender their attacking capabilities either and they did have a few decent chances. The defence which has been poor in this tournament suddenly looked unbeatable and the midfield kept the ball as much as can be expected against this Spain side. Indeed with possession statistics almost equal Italy showed their class and not many sides have restricted Spain to such low ball possession. After such a Herculean effort of concentration and vigour Italy may have pushed themselves too much and it would be no surprise to see a few back up players take part here. A 3^rd place from 8 teams is something not many teams are expected to really push themselves for,

URUGUAY - ITALY: BETTING TIPS

This is a very hard game to break down and it all comes down to will to win at this stage. A 3^rd place finish is not the prize neither team would really break their backs to gain. I think the extra days rest will benefit Uruguay and with the long and exhausting night the Italians had it would be sense to go with Uruguay.
