Euro 2016 opens with the host nation facing up to Romania in Stade de France, Paris. The French have had a little selection blip with Karim Benzema left out. However coach Deschamps sees squad harmony as important and believes he can win it without the Madrid hitman. Raphael Varane is injured and is a loss for sure. France have won 9 of the last 10 friendly matches with only England stopping them (albeit a subdued France who played in the aftermath of the Paris terror attacks) France have scored 13 goals in the last 4 matches as they seek to batter teams into submission.  Romania arrive here as one of the underdogs but have a decent, organised side. They finished 2^nd in their group (behind Northern Ireland) and ended up the group unbeaten with 5 wins and 5 draws. In recent friendlies they have had 2 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss. Drawing with Spain and Italy to show their quality but losing to Ukraine in a 7 goal thriller.

Romania have been on a long unbeaten run until going down to Ukraine in Italy recently. They have a balanced settled squad but I fear they don’t have enough top quality players to trouble France. The hosts will go all way in my opinion. I think they will have few problems in the opener. First competition games are generally very tight affairs.
