ATHLETIC BILBAO V LYON PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS
Athletic Bilbao has had a difficult season in la liga and sit 14th with just 11 points after 10 matches. They got their third win of the season at the weekend which took them away from the relegation zone but they have still lost 3 of their last 5 matches and are just 3 points ahead of the relegation zone. In the Europa league things have been just as bad with just 1 point from 3 matches and it is very likely they’ll be out of Europe before Christmas, a far cry from their excellent performances in reaching the final of this competition last season.
Lyon are staying with the leaders in Ligue 1 and sit in 3rd place with 21 points after 10 games. They are just 1 point behind Marseille and PSG and could move above PSG with their game in hand. They had a shaky period at the start of last month, not wining in 3 matches but they have fought back since winning their last two games, both at home. In the Europa League they are perfect with 3 wins from 3 and need just one more win to confirm themselves as winners of the group.

Bilbao are still a team that looks disjointed, especially compared to their excellent performances last year. They have lost top defender Javi Martinez and despite resisting bids for Fernando Llorente, they have kept him out of the starting lineup this season and he will sign for a club on a free next season. Striker Aduriz has filled in admirably after signing from Valencia in the summer and has scored 8 goals in 10 matches.
Lyon were expected to suffer this season after losing some of their top players to reduce their wage bill. They have performed excellently however and are in the fight for the title, at the very least they will expect a top 3 finish and the potential Champions League qualification that provides.
