ATHLETICO MADRID – PLZEN PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS

Athletico are one of the most inform teams in Europe at the moment.  They sit 2^nd in la liga with 16 point from 6 points, behind only Barcelona.  They have won their last 7 matches in all competitions, scoring an amazing 22 goals in the process and conceding just 7.  6 of their last 7 matches have been above 2.5 goals.  Their first Europa League match this was a 3-0 away win at Hapoel.

Plzen also sit 2^nd in their league, but only by the slimmest of margins.  They have 18 points after 9 matches and are equal on points and goal difference with leaders Jablonec.  They are undefeated for 8 matches, winning 6 of them but only 3 of the 8 have had over 2.5 Goals.  Their first Europa League match was a 3-1 home win over Academica.

TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Athletico are going for back to back Europa League wins after dominating the competition last year and demolishing Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in the final.  They played not quite a full strength team in the last match but a team that was still strong and had plenty of experience.  I’d expect a similar line-up tonight with a mix of first team players and those who aren’t automatic starters in the league.

Plzen are in very strong form this year although they have drawn two of their previous 3 matches and conceded a goal in each of their last 4.  They won’t have the option of conceding an easy goal against a team like Athletico and still be able to get a result so it is hugely important that their defence stays resolute for as long as possible.

Athletico are huge favourites for this and you can see why.  They have won 7 matches in a row and at home they have lost only once in their past 14 games, and that was to Real Madrid!  They are a top side who one of the favourites for this competition and I do not expect they will have much trouble here.

The Asian market gives Madrid a very big advantage.  The handicap is set at Athletico -1.75, which means they need to win by 3 clear goals to win all parts of the bet, if they win by 2 then half the bet wins and half refunded.  A one goal win, or any non-win means the whole bet is lost.
