BORDEAUX V MARITIMO PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: MATCH STATS AND FACTS

Bordeaux are struggling to stay in the fight at the top of Ligue 1.  They are currently in 7^th place with 18 points from 11 games, with 4 wins 6 draws and 1 loss.  This leaves them just 4 points off the top of the table however which shows how tight this current ligue 1 season is.  In the Europa League Bordeaux have 4 points after 3 matches which leave them 2^nd in the group.  They still have two home matches remaining where they should be able to do enough to progress.

Maritimo have made a poor start to the Primeira Liga this year.  They sit in 11^th place with just 8 points from 8 matches and are a huge 12 points off the lead.  They have lost 4 of their last 5 games and must be begging to worry about relegation.  In the Europa League they are yet to pick up a win, with two draws from their 3 matches so far.

Bordeaux face a tough time in Ligue 1 this season, with a large number of teams all fighting for a top 3 spot.  They don’t have the financial power to compete with PSG who have an almost unlimited bankroll so that only leaves 2 Champions League places for half a dozen teams to fight over.

Maritimo finished in an excellent 5^th place in Primeira Liga last year but they will find it difficult to match that finish again this year.   They are only 3 points of 5^th spot at the moment but there are 6 teams between them and the Europa League spot so they’ll have to outperform a lot of teams to get there.

These two teams met two weeks ago in the group with Maritimo at home and the match finished in a 1-1 draw.  Bordeaux would have been the happier side, taking an away point and will turn their focus to winning the home tie.  Maritimo played a practically full strength side in that game and I’d expect the same again for this, Bordeaux also played a surprisingly strong side despite the closeness of their domestic games.  Both teams seem to be putting more focus on this tournament than we’d normally expect.
