This is a meaningless Europa League Group D final. Both sides are through to the knock out stage. Bordeaux tops the group on 10 points. Newcastle follows with 9. The reverse fixture ended in a 3-0 victory for Newcastle. This was a closer game than the score board indicates. Bordeaux fielded what pretty much is their strongest eleven, while Newcastle played several fringe players

Both sides are through, so basically this match doesn’t mean too much. Newcastle will spare a lot of players. Taylor, Cabaye, Obertan and Ben Arfa are not likely to be back yet, and there were a few knocks on key players in the weekend win. More players will be rested for sure. Bordeaux, playing in front of their fans played a strong side in Newcastle, and will probably field strong again. They will want to revenge the unfair loss from earlier in the campaign.
