LAZIO V PANATHINAIKOS PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: MATCH STATS AND FACTS

Lazio are in the fight for a top 3 place in Serie A but look to be too far back to mount a title challenge.  They are currently in 5^th place with 6 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses from 11 matches.  They are 4 points off 3^rd place Napoli but 9 points off leaders Juventus.  In the Europa League they are undefeated with one win and 2 draws, with two home matches remaining it is very likely that Lazio will top the group.

Panathinaikos have struggled at the start of the season in the Greek Super League.  They are in 7^th position with 12 points from 9 matches and are 13 points off leaders Olympiakos.  Their recent form has been encouraging though with no losses in 6, although just 2 wins with 4 draws still has them dropping too many points.  In the Europa League things have not gone too well, again their problem is not being able to turn draws into wins and they have just 2 points after 3 matches.  They need to win away at either Lazio or Tottenham to go through so qualification looks unlikely.

Lazio have looked poor since a strong 3-2 win over Milan 3 weeks ago.  They have had 4 games since and have lost 2 and drawn 2.  Their away form isn’t good enough for a team fighting at the top of the table. 

In the Europa League Lazio has played a fairly strong side so far, unlike many Serie A teams who rest the majority of their starting line-up in this competition.  They know another win should be enough to see them through the group so will be aiming to get the win in this match to give them plenty of time to rest players going forward.

Panathinaikos have really struggled to score goals this year with just 9 goals in their 9 league games.  They are relying on their defence which has been stingy and has kept them in games with just 7 goals conceded.  Too many draws however are holding Panathinaikos back, over half their games have been drawn which is the most in the league.
