Leverkusen sits 3rd in the German Bundesliga at the moment! Leverkusen is 7-2-1 (21-9 Goal Difference) domestically. In the Europa League Group stages Leverkusen racked up 2-1-0, beating Rapid Vienna and Rosenborg. The draw came against Metalist.
Form wise Leverkusen is has been letting in 3 goals in both their last two Bundesliga apperances, and not won in the last 3. However, before they lost 2-3 at home to Dortmund on the 03.02 Leverkusen had gone 12 games undefeated on home soil.
Benfica is 2nd in the Primeira. Benfica has accumulated 14 wins in 18 matches so far. They haven’t lost a single game. At home they’re 6-2-0 (21-6 Goal Difference) in Portugal. Benfica played in the Champions League group of Spartak Moscow, Barcelona and Celtic. Benfica got the 3rd spot and had to settle for the Europa League knock out stages while Barcelona and Celtic still are in the Champions League. Benfica drew both Celtic and Barcelona away (0-0). They lost 2-1 though to Spartak.
Form wise Benfica is doing fine away from home in the Primeira. They’re currently on a 12 games away unbeaten run. Overall (home and away) they’re unbeaten in 22.
Team News
Both sides should be close to full strength. Leverkusen is still missing Bellarabi, but they got plenty of cover. Toprak is back in the middle of defense for Leverkusen after sitting out in the weekend due to suspension. So far in the Europa League Leverkusen management has picked solid sides, and I can’t think of any reason not to do so again.
Leverkusen - Benfica tips
Leverkusen close to full strength and their supporters will be backing them loudly at the Bay Arena. Leverkusen got Kießling and Schürrle up front. Castro and Sam plays just behind them or on the flanks. Bender and Rolfes are excellent central midfielders. Defensively I got a couple of question marks over Leverkusen though. Letting in 3 against Dortmund can be forgiven. I am not so sure about the 3 they let in against Gladbach though.
Since this is a two-legged affair Benfica is likely to be more defensive minded, knowing they can settle the score at home.
Benfica is one of those teams that has quite a lot of European experience. Benfica was slightly better than Celtic, and were really dangerous on the break in the 0-0 draw against Barcelona. If they can break like that at the Bay Arena Leverkusen can be in trouble. That said: I think Leverkusen will be very wary of this threat and also the effectiveness of Cardozo and other Benfica players on set-pieces. In other words, I don’t see Leverkusen attack like headless chickens.
The tipping point for me is that Leverkusen is a really strong home side both in Europe and domestically. It is not often you get 6/5 (2.20) for Leverkusen playing at home. Home win shout.
Betsson is the provider of 2.20 (6/5). If you are a new customer at Betsson you can take this bet with no risk at all. If you bet Leverkusen and lose, then Betsson will refund your loss up to £100.
