Mainz finished an excellent seventh in German Bundesliga last season, and have been active in the transfer market with Djuricic an eyecatching loan signing from Benfica in particular. Their Europa record is limited to just eight games without ever progressing to the groups, but a record of (3-4-1) is not to be sniffed at. Asteras from Greece where languishing in the fourth division ten years ago, but successive promotions saw them into the top tier, and this is their third straight season in Europa after finishing fifth last season. Success in Europe has been harder to find, though a (1-6-1) record in their eight matches played shows they do themselves justice. Already in action in the previous round they achieved their first European triumph over Finnish side ROPS with a 4-2 home win, before finishing off the tie with an away draw.
Asteras+1.5 at 1.94(20/21)Pinnacle looks to be a decent asian handicap option on a game that could be closer than the 1X2 odds suggest. Both sides have lost just once apiece in eight Europa matches played, and while the German side look stronger, Asteras could quite easily keep within the handicap to put us on a winning tip. Any positive Asteras result (win or draw), or a 1 goal loss means we are onto a winner, with a 2+goal Mainz win needed to thwart us.
