Sparta are 3^rd in the Czech Liga with 31 points from 16 matches, which leaves them just 1 point behind Jablonec and 3 points behind Viktoria Plzen.  They have not played a league match since the end of November and have played just two friendlies in preparation for this game which could leave them lacking match fitness.  To get to this point Sparta finished 2^nd in their group with 9 points from 6 matches which left them 7 points behind leaders Lyon. 

Chelsea are 3^rd in the Premier League with 49 points from 26 matches.  The championship is out of the question this season with Manchester United 16 points clear of them.  Instead they must look to keep the chasing teams behind them with Spurs just 1 point behind and Arsenal 5 points back.  Chelsea finished 3^rd in their Champions League group to get to this stage, they had Juventus and Shakhtar in their group and lost out on head to head with Shakhtar.
