TOTTENHAM V MARIBOR PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

Tottenham face a fight to retain the 4^th place position they managed last season. They are currently in 6^th place with 17 points from 10 points but are even on points with Everton in 4^th place. Their recent form has been disappointing though winning just 1 of their previous 5 games in all competitions and losing their second home league game in a row at the weekend against Wigan. In the Europa League Spurs have drawn all 3 of their matches so far, they need to win at least 2 of their remaining 3 games to ensure they qualify for the next stage.

Maribor are flying high at the top of the Slovenian National League with 25 points from 15 games. They are 3 points ahead of their nearest rivals Olimpija and have a game in hand. They have suffered two defeats in their last 3 league games however, their only 2 of the season so will be hoping that it is just a blip and they’ll continue with their dominant form. They are in a strong position in the Europa League group, sitting in 2^nd place with 4 points from their first 3 matches. With only one home match remaining they must get a result either away at Panathinaikos or in this match to qualify.

TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Spurs seem to have gone through 3 waves of form already this season. At the beginning of the season they struggled to get their first win and dropped points in their first 3 games. After that they won 4 games back to back including a great win at Old Trafford over Manchester United and were looking like they could challenge at the top of the table. A visit from Chelsea a few weeks ago seems to have dropped their form again however, losing that game 4-2 and their most recent home game 1-0 against Wigan. Their fans have shown their discontent with constant boo’ing of the poor home performances and the team will need to improve if they are to achieve their goal of a top 4 finish.

Maribor are having no such trouble with a clear lead at the top of SNL. They don’t have anywhere near the resources of Tottenham, having not spent anything on a player for 2 years but they have a strong young squad made up of a majority of Slovenians. Bar their goalkeeper they don’t have a single squad member who is over 30 years old so the future looks exciting for Maribor if they can hold onto their players. One of their few foreign players is Brazilian Marcos Tavares who is their top scorer this season with 6 goals from 9 starts.

Tottenham will be pushed by their manager to produce a strong performance at home in this match to appease the fans who have endured two home defeats in a row. I expect them to come out fighting and to achieve the win.
