Italy face up to Portugal in what would have been an interesting clash in the neutral venue of Geneva. However the powers that be in the Portuguese FA have granted Ronaldo an extended holiday so he sits out here.  We will see a matchup with both sides choosing to rotate. Italy haven’t lost since their ill-fated World Cup runout. They have played 9 games and have 5 wins and 4 draws. They are not playing at a maximum level attack wise but are very hard to beat at the moment. Their most recent game was the 1-1 Euro 2016 game at an empty Croatia stadium. They were the better side for long periods but a singular lapse in concentration led the Croats in to steal a draw. Portugal have been very hit and miss since the WC with 5 wins and 3 defeats. The losses have been very surprising with Cape Verde and Albania stealing wins. While Portugal have beaten Serbia, Argentina and Denmark in that period. Ronaldo will be missed obviously – he has scored 5 of the last 9 goals they have managed. His creativity will be lost also, Portugal will be without Tiago suspended. They also will look to tinker with the side.

I think of the two sides who look to be fielded here the Italian looks better. Portugal look to be treading water at the moment and with CR7 and I don’t like to follow them. We get paid on a Italy win here, a draw sees half stakes returned.
