Japan begin their friendly preparations for Brazil with a home friendly against a Cyprus side who performed poorly in their World cup qualifying group, and are without many of their regulars for the Far East trip. Japan qualified for Brazil comfortably topping the Asian section, though their friendly results have been mixed with several defeats. The last few though have included a win and a draw against quality European opposition in Belgium and Netherlands, and Cyprus will bring an easier test. Cyprus have not won in eleven, losing eight, and failing to score in the last seven. With no fewer than six key players out a hard job here begins to look impossible for Cyprus, and a confidence booster for Japan looks pretty much nailed on.
