Malta host Lithunia in a friendly at Ta Q’ali National Stadium. The odds have crashed on Malta to win this one. Lithuania recently capitulated against Hungary and lost in spectalar style 4-0. However Malta being Malta we should not get carried away. Malta have won 1 match in last 15 games (going back two years) and that was a 3-2 win over Faroe Islands. They have scored 7 and conceded 33 in that time. Losses have been to such teams as Azerbaijan (twice) Georgia and Albania. They even lost to Gibraltar who are way below the level.  These two sides have played twice with a 4-1 for Lithuania and a 1-1 draw. Malta are way behind in the rankings, currently placed in 145^th which puts them alongside teams such as India, Curacao and Timor-Leste. In the European Qualifiers, Lithuania who are ranked 96th in the FIFA World Rankings, have so far managed 2 wins (away to San Marino and home to Estonia), and are currently placed 4th in Group E with 6 points.  Malta coach Pietro Ghedin was forced to make changes to his selection prior to the next two matches as key players Jonathan Caruana, Steve Borg, Mark Scerri, Ryan Fenech and goalkeeper Andrew Hogg are all unavailable because of injuries.

 

Although Lithuania are in poor form they are only playing Malta here. Also this is a severely depleted Malta side. This will be a tough game for Lithuania though as the temperature and humidity are very high at present. I am looking at a low goal output in the game. While the flow of the game will be interrupted by a raft of substitutions. I take Lithuania at the greatly enhanced odds, don’t worry about going against the market move here – it’s absolute value.
