MALTA - NORTHERN IRELAND : PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

Malta keep plugging away and in 2012 found themselves with a sequence of wins that was unprecented for them. They matched themselves up with a few fellow minnows and were very much the better side in each game. In qualification things carried on as usual with three games and three defeats. However in each game they were very organised and threatened each team. Armenia, Italy and Czechs all found themselves in a competitive match and this in itself can be counted as a victory for the Meditteranean island side. Only conceding 6 goals in those three games shows how far they have come. In friendlies Malta managed to play 4 games. They managed to win all four games but they were against San Marino, Leicetenstein (twice) and Luxembourg.

Northern Ireland are another team who are really difficult to beat and can surprise the big teams. One of the problems for the Irish is they sometimes struggle against the minnows themselves. Drawn in an almost impossible group they have not started great.. Four games so far has yielded 3 draws and only 1 loss. They lost to Russia but drew away at Portugal. Draws also followed against Azerbaijan and then embarassingly at home to Luxembourg. Northern Ireland only managed three friendlies in 2012 and only got 1 draw and 2 losses. They managed a 3-3 with Finland but lost heavily to both Norway and Netherlands. The Northern Ireland squad is an organised but limited outfit who are capable of shocking the very best. However they are only average and do not have much creativity.

Northern Ireland should have this with ease, their players are all a step above their Maltese opponents and the quality is mainly with the Irish. Malta have fared well of late against the other smaller nations but although Northern Ireland are not the best of sides they are a huge jump up from San Marino and Leichtenstein.
