TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Bolivia are one of the weakest teams in the South American continent. Hampered by a poor squad of players and no real quality at all. The only thing they have in their favour is the high altitude of their La Paz ground. Situated over 3,600 metres above sea level every team that comes here has serious problems. Even so they have been especially poor this qualification with only 4 points from a possible 12 gained. They still have an outside chance of qualification but with their abysmal away record nothing less than winning every home game from no onwards will do. Last time out they took on fellow strugglers Peru, For the 1st 20 minutes Bolivia were second best and Peru took the lead with a 30 metre thunderbolt. After that though Bolivia took control of the match and dominated possession and territory for the last hour. They duly scored with a screamer of their own but could not find the winner. Through their lack of creativity they were reduced to a shoot on site policy that never reaped dividends. Bolivia looked much better with the introduction of Marcelo Moreno. It was puzzling to see the Gremio striker on the bench as he is the best Bolivian player of recent years.
Uruguay are in poor form, with no win in the last three qualifiers. Performances have been poor too with 8 goals conceded and only 1 scored as the team struggles to get it together. No players have been lost so as to why the team has gone from top of the table to this is a real puzzle. They started off with three wins and two draws as they played the best and most exciting football on the continent. Lately the team has looked fractured and is creating little. Coach Taberez is chopping and changing the formation and I think this is making things worse. The coach has gone from hero to zero in Montevideo and such is the fickle nature of football he is likely to be out of a job if Uruguay don't pick up at least a point in La Paz. Uruguay created nothing in Mendoza in the 3-0 loss to Argentina but to be fare Lionel Messi's side are playing some wondeful stuff at the moment. Taberez will look long and hard at this fixture and he knows that his team are head and shoulders above Bolivia but the dreaded altitude affects Uruguay more than most. Attacking midfielder Gaston Ramirez is missing with a long term injury. While suspension robs Uruguay for three key players: Captain Diego Lugano, Diego Godin and Martin Caceres.

Bolivia looked so much stronger than Peru after just 30 minutes as altitude took effect it was quite a thing to watch. Peru are from a high altitude themselves but players who started the game lively looked sluggish and heavy legged quite quickly. Uruguay have little time to aclimatise after just 2 days recovery from Argentina so have flown in late. The team from sea level will not be able to last the full 90 minutes and I believe Bolivia will administer another defeat and end Taberez's reign as coach. With three key suspensions too Uruguay have a mountain to climb in the lofty heights of La Paz.

Bolivia is the pick here 0 at 1.94 (Pinnacle) In a very close game I think the lack of preparation at altitude will affect Uruguay. Bolivia will look to take the game to them as they have nothing to lose now. Uruguay will likely have equal possession in this match as for sure their game will slow down second half. Bolivia will play a fast attacking game and they do like to take shots from distance, they tend to fly in this rarefied air and keepers can have a problem.
