COSTA RICA - HONDURAS:PREDICTIONS

Concacaf Qualifying heats up with a real grudge match in San Jose. Costa Rica host Honduras in a vital game for both sides.

Costa Rica really are in great form but again its a case of weak opposition rather the strength of the home side. These Central American sides tend to play a lot more games than the rest of the nations. With 11 wins, 6 draws and 5 defeats they have been busy. With 31 goals scored and 15 conceded they look strong statistic wise. Just looking into the games however sees wins over Wales, Belize, Guyana, El Salvador (twice). The only wins of note are Honduras and Jamaica. Whenever a stronger side was faced either a draw or a loss was the result. The side is very settled and almost picks itself,  the team is drawn mainly from Costa Rica but over half the squad are playing in all corners of world football. Key men are winger Cristian Bolanos, attacking midfielder Celso Borges and captain Bryan Ruiz. Upfront Costa Rica are loaded with quality forwards. In truth any of the 5 in the squad could do a good job, Arsenal youngster Joel Campbell is a real prospect who burst onto the scene in the last competition In this Group they sit in 3rd with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat.

Honduras are on a poor run of recent results but they have played a lot of good oppostion. Looking into their recent run they have  just 1 wins, 1 draws and 3 defeats. However the quality of opposition faced here is decent; USA, Mexico, Panama and Israel among others.  Prior to that though they were in excellent form with 5 wins, 6 draws and 3 defeats. Honduras are more suited to home games. Indeed since 2012 they have only actually managed 2 away wins 9 matches (beating El Salvador and Cuba) Honduras have a few decent players but seem to lack the allround quality of other sides. Players of note are Wilson Palacios, (hardly played this season though) and striker duo Carlos Costy and Jerry Bengston (the latter one of the standout players of the Olympic team) In the group Honduras are  4^th with 1 win, 1 draw and 1defeats.
