ITALY v DENMARK PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS

Italy are currently 8th in the FIFA World Rankings. They reached the last 16 in the 2010 World Cup and lost in the final to Spain at Euro 2012.  Italy have scored 19 goals in eleven matches and conceded 12. Denmark are 18th in the rankings. They qualified for the latest World Cup finals and European Championships without getting out of their group on each occasion. Denmark have scored 12 goals in eleven matches and conceded 15.

TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Italy were runners-up at Euro 2012, losing 4-0 in the final to Spain. Andrea Pirlo proved himself to be one of the best midfield players in the world, dominating that area of the field especially against England in the quarterfinals. Mario Balotelli can be brilliant up front but his temperament is questionable to say the least. Niklas Bendtner is arguably Denmark’s best player having scored in the last World Cup finals and Euro 2012. He didn’t have an outstanding scoring record at Arsenal where Robin Van Persie was the main supplier of goals. He is currently not a first team choice at Juventus.

Italy played exceptionally well against Germany in the semi-finals of Euro 2012. Balotelli scored two goals in that match and the better side of the player was seen to good effect. However, Italy’s key player is Pirlo who given space can control a game from the centre of midfield. Even so he was overshadowed by Spain’s central players in the Euro 2012 final. Italy had 59% of possession against Armenia last week and created an impressive 20 chances. A similar share of the ball and dominance is not anticipated against Denmark. That side had a 73% of possession against Bulgaria but scored just once in a drawn match.

This is just Italy’s third game at home in 2012. They lost the first of those games to the United States in February and only beat Malta 2-0 in Modena earlier this month. Italy have lost to England in a friendly at a neutral ground this season but tend to perform best in competitive matches. Denmark lost to Germany at Euro 2012 so on collateral form will struggle to avoid defeat against Italy and a home win is anticipated.
