USA - PANAMA: PREDICTIONS

Concacaf Qualifying heats up with another really tight game. The solid Panamanians travel to Seattle to try and grab a point and further their chances of a 1^st World Cup. USA is moving along nicely but must not get too complacent.

USA has been a bit hit and miss over the last 18 months or so. Teams in this part of the world tend to play a lot more games than others and USA has tried a few things out. Since the start of 2012 they have been very busy with 12 wins, 5 draws and 4 defeats. With 33 goals scored and 23 conceded they have been involved in a few goal fests. They have recorded some impressive results over them games with Italy beaten in Genoa, old rivals Mexico in Azteca and a strong 4-3 over a Germany 2^nd eleven. The US is an underrated side for me and they have a good manager in Jurgen Klinsmann. USA has a huge roster of players and although Landon Donovan is absent they have some major experience there. Two top England Premier keepers in Howard & Guzan. Defence is their weakness for me with Beesley left side of a back two of Besler and Gonzalez there is a bit of leeway for the opposition.. In the middle they are very impressive with Bradley of Roma and Geoff Campbell of Stoke a decent pairing. They will likely go with Dempsey and Fabian Johnson behind Altidore which is a dangerous strike force. USA sit in 2nd with 2 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat in this very tight group.

Panama could be the real surprise in this section, they really are in great form but again it’s a case of weak opposition rather the strength of the home side. These Central American sides tend to play a lot more games than the rest of the nations. With 9 wins, 7 draws and 6 defeats they have been busy. With 25 goals scored and 19 conceded they look strong statistic wise. Panama is a real improving team and has stepped up several levels over the past few years. The team is loaded with players from top leagues in South America and Mexico.  Key men are midfielders Gabriel Gomez and defensive middle Amilcar Henriquez. Upfront Panama has an explosive duo in Blaz Perez and Luis Tejada. In this Group they sit in 4th with 1 win, 3 draws and 0 defeats.

On paper this does look a surefire home win, Panama are decent its true but I have serious reservations about their ability to grab points away from home. These sides are regular rivals and the form lines are there for all to see. With 12 match ups over the years it is very one sided with 10 wins for USA and 1 for Panama. Panama will try to stifle the life out of the US and hope for a point, I cannot see them holding out for 90 minutes and see a US win here.
