Juventus looked certain winners of the Serie A before the Christmas break. Now they go to Verona to face Chievo with Napoli breathing down their necks. This Serie A lunch time kick off promises drama and entertainment.
With only one win in their last four Serie A games the pressure is on Juventus. The defending Serie A Champion hasn’t played bad to be honest, but being without several key players like Pirlo, Marchisio, Chiellini, Vidal and Quagliarella has taken its toll. The fringe players coming in have struggled converting all the possession and chances.
Chievo may be 21 points ahead of Chievo in the Serie A standings, but Verona has proven to be a difficult place to go for Juventus. Since, and including 2010 the teams have met six times. Juventus and Chievo have won one each. Four ties have ended with draws. The reverse fixture this season however was a demonstration of power from Juventus. Chievo did never look a threat. Juventus owned possession, and won 2-0. Both goals were scored by Quagliarella in the Second Half.
Chievo – Juventus team news
Chievo hasn’t reported any new injury worries, but defenders Frey and Drame as well as midfielders Hetemaj and Luciano are still out. Veteran forward Pellissier is still out too. Chievo had a very busy transfer window this month. They actually brought in five new faces on deadline day (eight in total for the month of January). The biggest name coming in is in my opinion Acerbi of AC Milan. The bits and part defender, that actually went to Milan from Chievo will strengthen this Verona based side considerably. It is however unlikely he will participate here.
Juventus has eased Marchisio’s way back into the team. This box-to-box midfielder is one I rate very highly. Edit: Juventus reports that Marchisio has taken a knock to the hip that will set him back 7-10 days. He will not participate here. Pirlo got 25 minutes against Lazio in the Cup. He will most likely get game time again. What he is about, we all know! Chiellini still can’t play, and another worry defensively is that Bonucci is suspended. The same applies to Vucinic (striker). Giovinco is fit however, and can do the job equally well up front. Matri is fit as well! Anelka has also been brought in, but it is unlikely he will get game time here.
Chievo v Juventus predictions for 1x2
Juventus is strengthened in the middle of the park with at least Pirlo coming back (if they start him). Missing both Bonucci and Chiellini (both Italian internationals) is a tough blow not easy to fix. Up front they should be good to go.
Chievo got a relatively lucky win (and ended Lazio’s long unbeaten run) last match day. Overall they have been good going as of late, and history tells us this is an encounter they fight in. It must be said though that Juventus is overall a bit better now compared to the recent results overall. Chievo is pretty much at the same level.
When I look at the odds in the market though I don’t know if I should laugh or cry (I actually did both, in that order!). 11/20 (1.55) to 13/20 (1.65) for a Juventus win is just pathetic given the circumstances. There is massive value to be had backing the draw. BetVictor (Old Victor Chandler) offers 29/10 (3.90). For New Customers it’s even better. You get a £25 FREE BET when you sign up.
