Sampdoria ended a run of five successive defeats by beating Genoa at home last weekend. However Genoa themselves were losing their sixth match in a row so the value of the form is questionable. Sampdoria are now clear of the relegation places but another defeat could see them drop back into the bottom three. Bologna also won for the first time in six matches last weekend but the value of the form of the match against Palermo is stronger. Both sides have made generally moderate starts to the season and the home side are just one place and two points above Bologna in the latest standings. Matches involving these sides this season have averaged more than 2.5 goals and that average is slightly higher for Sampdoria games at home.

Sampdoria shared possession with Atalanta at home recently but lost that match. They will have to be more efficient in use of possession against Bologna.
