ANZHI MAKHACHKALA – LOK MOSKVA: PREDICTIONS

Russia Premier League begins again in its old format after reverting from a Summer league to  an Autumn one like the rest of Europe. One of the big games of opening day sees cash rich Anzhi host Lok Moskva.

Anzhi Makhachkala is a based in Makhachkala capital of the Republic of Dagestan. Founded in 1991,They have a couple of Division 1 titles but only a best place finish of 3^rd in the top tier.  Anzhi play their home games at Anzhi-arena, but as Dagestan is an unstable area generally the players live in Moscow and fly into the region for home games. Anzhi have improved year on year and with an almost open cheque book have players flying in from all across the globe. A side containing the world’s highest paid player in Samuel Eto’o. Plus talents including Brazilians Willian, Jucilei, Ewerton and Joao Carlos as well as Lassana Diarra. The Russian players are among the best in the league too with Yuri Zhirkov and  Aleksander Kokorin top players.

Lok Moskva have been in existence since the mid 1920’s but for a side of such fame they have only actually won the league title twice. Both titles were won recently enough, in 2002 and 2004. The side borne from the railways of old Russia seem to have been around for ever but have had little success. Lok Moskva were always to be considered the “weakest link in Moscow” both in support and success, until the mid 90’s when the hierarchy built a new stadium and the fans flocked to watch which then coincided with the best period in the clubs history. Last season was a bit of a flop as a side led by Slaven Bilic could only finish 9^th. The current squad is packed with quality and although mainly Russian does have a few decent foreigners too.

ANZHI MAKHACHKALA – LOK MOSKA: BETTING TIPS

Last season Anzhi were supremely strong at their Dagestan home ground . Indeed they went the whole 15 games ubeaten with 10 wins and 5 draws; Anzhi are strongly fancied to improve on their 3^rd position of last season and only Zenit and CSKA are shorter than them for the title betting. I fancy Anzhi to get off to a win here against Lok and 1.67 (willhill) looks a fair price for another home win.
