Mallorca v Barcelona predictions and preview: Betting stats

Mallorca sit 13th in La Liga with 11 points from their opening 10 games (W3 D2 L5). They started the season unbeaten but have since slumped with form of LLLLL, the worst in the league. They started the season with 3 home victories but have since lost two on the trot. Their games average 2.50 goals and just 4 have seen over 2.5 goals; 6 have had fewer.

Barcelona are top of the league with 28 points; just one blemish on their record of W9 D1 L0. Their form represents their overall record at WDWWW and away from home they have 5 straight wins, scoring 3.8 goals on average. Their games have averaged 4.40 goals and just two (none away) have seen under 2.5 goals.

Team News and Run of Play

Both sides have a fairly extensive injury list with the home side without 5 players including Joao Victor, Antonio Lopez, Jose Nunes, Javi Marquez and Alvaro Gimenez. Barcelona on the other hand are without fringe players Cuenca and Muniesa and also Thiago, Puyol, Pique and still Abidal.

Mallorca started the season 3-2-0 but have since collapsed. Their well-known good home form have dipped also and this is not the time for consecutive home games against Real Madrid (which they lost 5-0) and Barcelona. They have seen some real difficulty in scoring goals this season and that record is just as poor at home; they have scored just 1.2 goals a game on average on the island.

Barcelona go into this game on the back of a defeat, which it is very rare to say. Despite enjoying 89% possession (depending where you get your statistics) they went down 2-1 to Celtic on Wednesday and will no doubt want to break down this Mallorca defence early in order to not repeat their first CL group stage defeat in 3 years. They are scoring a very good amount of goals away from home but are also conceding plenty due to makeshift centre back pairings.

Mallorca v Barcelona predictions: 1X2 betting preview

It would be absolutely unthinkable to see consecutive Barcelona defeats, especially against a side in such poor form. For me, their odds will always be short but I think 1.25 for the Barcelona win is a good bet. They should easily come through this away test despite just 4 days in between matches in cold Glasgow and warm Mallorca.

Mallorca v Barcelona predictions: Asian Handicap preview

At first, I looked at recent fixtures and my eyes were drawn to their struggles to win away against Sevilla (2-3) and Deportivo (4-5) but I think their latest away win against Vallecano will work as inspiration and the shock of the midweek defeat should spur them on to a convincing victory with goals throughout. Barcelona -1.5 is 1.75 with 188bet and sees a better return if Barca can win by 2 or more goals.

Mallorca v Barcelona predictions: Total Goals preview

Over 2.5 goals is 1.44 with Paddy Power and for me that’s a bet. Mallorca’s home games average 2.8 goals and Barcelona’s away games average a huge 5.4 goals so all signs point to goals here. For more value it may be worth looking at over 3.5 goals and at 2.20 with William Hill it looks a better value bet in the market.
