RAYO VALLECANO - ELCHE : PREDICTIONS

Elche make their 1^st appearance is Primera Division since 1989, they face a Vallecano side who did well to finish in their 2nd season back in the top flight.

Rayo Vallecano made it two successive seasons in the the top flight and last year actually finished 8^th in what was a tremendous season for them. Considering their tiny budget and lack of star players they have really overachieved. Young striker Leo Baptistao has gone and at £7 million he could be a steal, looking one for the future.  A few interesting transfers in for Rayo include attacker Nery Castillo, Alberto Bueno and Jaoquin Lerrivey.  Castillo was once transferred for £20 million such was his potential, however apart from a goal heavy spell at Olympicos he has yet to really live up to that. Rayo have a very, very small squad; its imperative they stay clear of suspensions and injuries or its unlikely they will live up to last years 8^th place.

Elche made promotion finally to grab the all-important position in the top flight. The side finished a top of the Segunda Division and may find it hard to adjust to the step up in class. Elche have traded almost the entire squad, with a lot of experience coming in. Important incomings include Alberto Botia, Javier Martinez and Ruben Perez. Elche made something of a coup in signing influential Colombian midfielder Diego Alberto Sanchez. Defender Damien Suarez and midfielder Ruben Perez will miss out here through suspension, both are usual starters.

RAYO VALLECANO - ELCHE: BETTING TIPS

This game looks very likely to be a close game but I feel the experience of the home side should give them the edge. I think the odds are great value on the home side and don’t see any particular reason for the big price on Rayo. Elche are 2^nd favourites for the drop and are odds on in places while Rayo had an excellent season last year and have brought a few decent players in. Take the 2.30 on Rayo Vallecano with Williamhills it is great value.
