TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Real Madrid are closing in on second place in la liga with Atletico 5 points ahead now and having to face Barcelona this week.  Madrid will be hoping for a draw in that game so they can gain points on both sides but it’s likely that Barcelona are just too far in front now, 11 points, and they’d be better focusing on overtaking Atletico for second.

Madrid will be struggling at left back for this match with Marcelo and Coentrao both injured.  We seen young Spanish defender Nacho fill in last week and he could retain his place here.  Higuain is also still out so Benzema will continue as the main striker. 

Espanyol have no injury worries but will be without the suspended Sergio Garcia.  They obviously know they are very unlikely to get anything from this match but in the coming weeks they must pick up wins if they want to escape from the relegation zone.

Madrid are huge favourites here.  They have won their last 5 at home by a combined score of 18-2 and I don’t expect any slip ups this week.
