FRANCE V SLOVAKIA PREDICTIONS

The first day of the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is here and brings us four games. 14^th ranked France takes on the 6^th ranked Slovakia. Last year France finished 5^th in their group just behind Slovakia and did not qualify for the playoffs. Slovakia finished 4^th in the group and qualified to the playoffs as the last team, but carried on all the way to the final where they fell to Russia, and winning the silver medal. They have only met once before under these circumstances and that was last year’s WC. Slovakia won the game 5-4.

France has appeared in the tournament 49 times and has never won. Their best result is 6^th dating all the way back to 1930, which was their first ever appearance. France does not have any player coming from the NHL and their only player with NHL experience is their veteran goalkeeper Cristobal Huet, who played 273 NHL games in his career.

Slovakia has appeared in the tournament 17 times and has won once in 2002. Slovakia has 2 players coming over from the NHL in Andrej Sekera and Tomas Kopecky, but have NHL veterans like Miroslav Satan and Jozef Stümpel on their roster. Together Satan and Stümpel bring over 2000 NHL games of experience and 104 pts in 119 WC games. Slovakia totals 4063 NHL games of experience and is the oldest and heaviest team in the tournament.

FRANCE – SLOVAKIA BETTING TIPS

France has been hanging on to a spot in the highest division in the WC for the past 6 years, after being promoted 2007 when they won the D1 division which is the one below the head tournament. 9^th place in 2012 tournament is their best result for France since the 2007 promotion and they are an upcoming team in the hockey world. Even though France has been performing at a higher level in recent years, Slovakia comes in to this tournament with a lot more Experience and Star power. As the reigning runner ups from last year Slovakia is looking to establish themselves as a team to be in the top on the international hockey scene, and they have the means to do so. France is an obstacle Slovakia shouldn’t have any troubles getting by.
