SWEDEN V SWITZERLAND PREDICTIONS
The first day of the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is here and brings us four games. 4th ranked Sweden takes on the 9th ranked Switzerland. Last year Sweden finished 2nd in their group and lost in the quarterfinals against the Czech Republic. Switzerland finished 6th in their group and didn’t qualify for the playoffs. Their last 5 games between each other (excluding exhibition games) have ended in a 4-0-1 in favor of Sweden.
Sweden has appeared in the tournament 67 times and has won 8 times, most recent being 2006. Sweden have 6 players from the NHL with Gabriel Landeskog who became the youngest captain in NHL history when Colorado Avalanche announced him as their captain last summer, but have had a tough season due to injuries, and Loui Eriksson who had a disappointing season in Dallas Stars but always steps up when playing in the national team with 24 pts in 26 games for Sweden. Their team combines for 1568 GP in the NHL.
Switzerland has appeared in the tournament 60 times and has never won. Their best result being 2nd dating far back to 1935. Switzerland has 1 player from the NHL in Roman Josi, who’s had a good season back in Nashville this year. Their team combines for 403 GP in the NHL.
SWEDEN – SWITZERLAND BETTING TIPS
Switzerland finished 11th in last year’s tournament, their worst result since 1997, and definitely want to get further this year, but have a tough game against the host Sweden in their first game in the tournament. Sweden would like some revenge from last year’s failure when they got eliminated in the quarterfinals, and Switzerland should not be any problem to overcome. Considering Sweden is on home ice and has a lot of players coming from the NHL and more than 1100 NHL games in their troop compared to Switzerland. These numbers are also taken from only 16 players from Sweden since while writing this; their full troop hasn’t been announced yet. This game feels very one sided and I don’t see any other outcome than a victory for Sweden.
Back Sweden on home ice at 1.33 with Betsson.
