MONTREAL CANADIENS V NEW YORK RANGERS PREDICTIONS

For the third and final time this season the Rangers and the Habs clash in Montreal in an interesting game as this shortened season is getting closer to the playoffs. Both previous games have been won by the Habs, 3-1 in New York and 3-0 in Montreal. As far as injuries goes in both teams, the Rangers only have Marc Staal worth mentioning with an eye injury and is out indefinitely. The Habs have 5 players injured (Ryan White, Brandon Prust, Yannick Weber, Raphael Diaz and Rene Bourque).

The Montreal Canadiens on the other hand is quite the opposite. After finishing 15th and last in the western conference last year the expectations weren’t very high for the Habs this season. This year they have played exceptionally well in probably the most competitive division of all this season. Leading the northeast division with 47 points gives them 2nd place in the conference only trailing Pittsburgh Penguins. With a 7-2-1 record last ten makes them one of the hottest teams in the league right now, coming from a big win against division rivals Boston Bruins with 6-5 in SO on Wednesday.

The Rangers season has been a disappointment for both the club and the fans thus far, considering they clinched the 1st place in the western conference last year. Placed 8th in the western conference at 35pts, same points as the New York Islanders but ahead due to 1 less game played. Going 4-5-1 in their last 10 and Coming from a 0-3 loss on Thursday in Ottawa, the 4th time the Rangers have been shutout this season. They are ranked 29th in the league in goals for with only 75 goals in 33 games, averaging 2.27 goals per game, with only Columbus trailing them. Even though they do not score a lot of goals they find ways to win games because of their strong defensive play. With 78 goals against this season places them 5th in the goals against ranking, much thanks to their goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist, who despite not playing at his best right now, with a .922 sv% is ranked 8th in that section and 9th in goals against with 2.19 ga/g.

MONTREAL CANADIENS – NEW YORK RANKGERS BETTING TIPS

With the expectations on the Rangers this season they really have to get some points if they want to clinch a playoff-spot, since both the Islanders and the Capitals behind them in the standings have been picking up their game as of late and want to be one for the post-season as well. The Habs are in a quite comfortable spot right now and, even though they no doubt want to claim the top spot in their division over their long-time rival Boston Bruins doesn’t have the same pressure on them as the Rangers have right now. And because of the Rangers situation in the standings they are desperate for any points they can get to not let the teams trailing them get any closer, that’s why my money is on the Rangers in this game. Even though the Rangers away record isn’t that great with 6-8-1, and the fact that the Habs is hot right now, I believe that they will prevail and win the game in regulation.
