Wednesday Champions League action

By admin-alf on August 26, 2015 in Football, Sports

There are a total of five Champions League matches being played tonight, they are the second leg of the third round qualification matches and will decide who will earn a place in the Champions League group stage. Below we will take a short look at all the matches, and remember you can check our prediction page for all the latest free football predictions!

Club Brugge v Manchester United

Manchester United has a clear advantage going in to this match, as they won the first leg 3-1 away. Club Brugge was down 1-2 in that match, but a red card in the 80th minute and a Man United goal in injury time made the situation a lot worse, and Brugge has no other option now but to go forward and score at least two goals. They impressed in last qualification round when, after losing the first leg, came back and won 3-0 at home against Panathinaikos. But this time around the opposition is decidedly tougher.

Neither team has impressed that much in their domestic leagues. Club Brugge is in 6th place with 2-1-2, while Manchester United is 2-1-0 , but have only scored two goals.

The odds on Manchester United to win seem too low, considering that they do not have to win. If you are looking for a bet on this match, consider the draw instead at 11/4 (3.75) with BET365.

Bayer Leverkusen v Lazio

Lazio won the first leg 1-0, so they have only a very narrow lead going in to this match. Leverkusen has started their domestic season in great fashion, beating Hoffenheim 2-1 at home and Hannover 1-0 away. Heung-Min Son is doubtful, while midfielder Aranguiz has been out for some time.

Lazio has not featured in the Champions League since the 2007/08 season, but they did reach the final in last year’s Italian cup plus earned a third place in Serie A. Serie A started back up again last weekend, and Lazio got a good start by beating Bologna at home. For this match they will have to do without their captain Biglia, plus Klose, goalie Marchetti and midfielder Djordjevic - four solid players that will be missed.

Leverkusen created several chances in the first leg, and we expect they will do even better this match, considering the home field advantage and the Lazio injuries. The match price for Leverkusen to win is on the low side, but the odds to qualify look more interesting. If you fancy a bet, then you should consider Leverkusen to qualify, odds 5/4 (2.25) with BET365.

Partizan Beograd v BATE Borisov

BATE Borisov won the first leg 1-0, after a goal in the 75th minute. Overall it was a fairly deserved win, but Partizan got a man sent off in the 45th minute and this of course affected the run of play. It was the midfielder Jevtovic that was sent off, and he is therefore unavailable for this match. Partizan is in fourth place in their domestic league, with four wins and two losses. They won their last match this weekend, and in the previous round of Champions League qualification they managed a good home win 4-2 against Steaua Bucuresti.

BATE Borisov is at the top of their Belarus Premier League, and won a whopping 7-1 this weekend (though it was against Neman Grodno, number 10 in the league and a team they should beat).

Partizan should have a good opportunity to win this match. If you agree, then you can get for instance 11/10 (2.10) with BET365, or if you want to bet on them to qualify, you get 2/1 (3.0) with PaddyPower.

APOEL Nicosia v Astana

This is another match that ended 1-0 in the first leg, as Astana scored early in that match and managed to keep a clean sheet. APOEL had the most possession in that match, although it was a pretty even match. APOEL started their domestic season last weekend with a great 5-1 win away to Emris, so they should feel confident at the moment. Astana did not play over the weekend, but they are second in their domestic league and over the last seven matches (all competitions) they are 7-1-0. However, APOEL should be the strongest team here, and we have a betting prediction out for this match. If you agree, BET365 currently offers 21/20 on the home win.

CSKA Moscow v Sporting Lisbon

Sporting won the first leg 2-1 in what can be described as a fully deserved win. But it is a dangerous lead to have, since CSKA has one away goal, and this makes the match one of the most exciting ones tonight. CSKA has started their domestic league with six wins in six matches, but in the Champions League they have only one win in last nine home matches (though against some tough opponents).

The match is being played at Arena Khimki, which is not the true home pitch of CSKA. This is an important factor, among some others. We have a prediction out for this match, click here to read it to get all the details!
