Uruguay needed to beat Jordan in a play-off to reach the finals after an unimpressive fifth placed finish in the South American section. The attack of Suarez, Cavani and Forlan is rightly their main talking point, though the side has far more depth with the likes of Godin and Pereira in defence, and Cristian Rodriguez in midfield. Suarez is out with an injury that could well mean he misses the tournament, but the South Americans should gain a confidence boosting win at home here. Northern Ireland suffered another poor qualifying campaign, and a loss at minnows Luxembourg illustrates fully their limitations. Very seldom though do they take a hammering, and they will provide Uruguay with a decent test of European opposition ahead of the finals. Five uncapped players are named in a squad that is missing plenty of its more established performers.
