Copa America - Chile preview
Chile – Mexico – Ecuador – Bolivia
Group A on is a very tough one on paper but looking past the teams we can narrow it down in out favour. Top two sides qualify automatically with the next best three teams going through. So every game will be worth playing 100% for as a side could go through with 3 points!
Ok lets break down the teams with some outright betting, Group Winners and anything else that presents itself!
CHILE (Ranked 5th in Comnebol)
2014-15 Form: 10 wins, 3 draws, 5 losses. – Win % 55%
Top Scorers: E.Vargas 7 – A.Sanchez 4
The hosts come into this having never won the competition. A ridiculous statistic when you consider the players they have had over the years. They have a best finish of runners up and have done this on four occasions – last was in 1987. They have made the quarter finals last two times out but have lost then both. The side is very well balanced and has the same core players we are used to over the last few years. Stand out are the two superstars Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal. However there is quality all over the attack with the evergreen Mark Gonzalez, Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas and Matias Fernandez all performing recently.
Chile can go deep into this tournament but they need to secure top spot in Group A in order to avoid other group winners (likely Argentina and Brazil) and a match against a 3rd place finisher.
I think they are very capable of Group Winner but the odds are very short indeed (best price 4-9 or 1.44 with Ladbrokes) so I’m getting around this with a straight forecast of Chile 1st Ecuador 2nd at 13-5 or 3.60 with Ladbrokes again. More details in the Ecuador preview! If you wish to take some insurance you can take Chile and Ecuador 1st and 2nd in either order at 2.80 or 9-5 again with Ladbrokes. This price is huge and to put it into perspective William Hills are just 2.00 or Even money!
